Maybe it’s the manifesting of pumpkin spice everything and photographable foliage or maybe it’s the societal ending of summer, but I feel like I need to take advantage of the last few weeks we have.
So I’ve done what I do best and complied an End of Summer bucket list.
1) Puppy Beach Day: He’s not exactly a puppy, he turned 6 last month, but he’s never fully experienced the beach. Every puppy deserves to feel the sand on their paws, the salty air on their fur, and the cooling ocean over their little or big bodies.
2) Sunrise on the beach: I’ve never, ever experienced a sunrise on the beach. If you’ve been around then you know I am not a morning person. I am a beach girl though. So, getting up before the sun and being on the beach can’t be that bad, right? Beautiful sky, sound of crashing waves, and the serenity of the unknown morning hour might be the ideal way to start the day. At the very least I’ll be able to tick it of the list and have a great excuse for an extra coffee or two.
3) Sunset on the beach: You can’t have one without the other. I’ve never made it back to the beach in time for sunset. After a day of being ravaged by reckless and subtle waves alike, a late afternoon nap usually takes over. Have no fear extra coffee is here! Sunrise and sunset all in one day, talk about living balanced.
4) Bike ride: This is much more nostalgic than new. I use to spend hours and hours on my bike growing up. Traveling with friends, racing with friends, and just living the fullest childhood you could in the mid2000s. Needless to say I traded my two wheels in for four when I turned sixteen. I don’t know if it’s a trend or what’s happening, but I’ve noticed so many people on bikes and I’m feeling inspired. It’s time to dust off my two wheels and pray “it’s just like riding a bike” is accurate.
5) Spend a night in a tent: It’s been years since I’ve used my tent. My best friends and I use to live for baby campouts in our backyards. I mean who wouldn’t love access to indoor plumbing, free Wi-Fi, and an escape route if the bugs become vindictive. I don’t know if it’s the nature or the semi isolation from electricity and comforts of home, but a night outside is like a reset button. Which might be what we all need to kickoff the fall.
6) Drive-in OR movie night outside: If you read Movie Moment then you know how I’ve been trying to create theater experiences safely at home. If you haven’t read it yet then you’re really missing out in life. Either way I need to create a makeshift theater at home. Whether it’s in my basement on a blank wall or outside on an oversized sheet, it’s happening. I also really want to experience a drive-in. I know not everywhere is doing this, but if there’s one in your area it’s a perfect date night or day idea. Whether it’s an official date or time with friends or even a big family excursion. It’s a great way to get out, but also stay safe.
As much as I thrive in fall, I’m still not ready to say goodbye to summer. It’s been a weird summer, so I’m going to grasp whatever summer has left to offer and go with it.
