Can I have your attention please?

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” –Mahatma Gandhi

I’m not normally a political person. I was raised in a house where we didn’t talk about politics. That’s not to say that I’m not informed. I watch the news religiously and receive updates throughout the day from multiple news sources. I like to stay in the know, ya know? Typically, I’d refrain from political comments because I never want anyone to feel uncomfortable. However, I have a platform and I’d like to utilize it!

I’m not here to share my political views perse; I’m a strong believer in everyone is entitled to their own opinions.  I’ll keep my political views to myself, but I’d like to share one important opinion with all of you.

V O T E.

I’m not going to sit here and tell you who to vote for. Again, it is your choice! As Americans, we have the right to vote. I can say that some of us take that for granted. I for one am one of us taking it for granted.

It’s time we bring back the confession sessions: I did not vote in the last election. 2016 was the first election that I was legally able to vote, but I didn’t want to. I genuinely felt like my voice didn’t count. To me, it felt like it didn’t matter.

I was wrong.

It’s important that we let our voices be heard. No matter what our voices are saying. We have the opportunity to have a say in who runs our country. That’s a huge deal.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t fully understand the importance of that four years ago. I looked at it as one small voice in an enormous crowd. The smallest of voices can be heard if you’re open to listening. America wants to hear from you.

So, if you have the right to vote take advantage of that.

Vote for yourself.

Vote for your community.

Vote for your loved ones.

Vote for those who don’t have the ability to.

Vote for the younger generation.

Vote for the older generation.

Vote because you have a voice and your voice is important. Let America hear you as cliché as that might sound. I don’t think anyone can stress the importance of voting, especially now.

I am voting today. Who’s with me?
