I love making lists. I don’t know if it’s that sense of accomplishment when you get to cross another thing off or if I just love organization that much. Either way, there is no better reason to create a list than a new year. If you read my last post then you know that I struggle to maintain any sense of motivation with New Years resolutions. With that being said, I’m hoping this list will help hold me more accountable.
1. Taking time for me: I understand this may sound selfish and in a way it is. I’m someone who worries more about the people around her as oppose to worrying about her self. Sometimes I need to ask myself “What do I need?” and reassure myself that it is OKAY to do things for myself.
2. Drink water: It might not sound like a resolution, but you can’t be the best you without being hydrated.
3. Yoga: I do NOT know how to relax. I’m almost always on edge, so I wanted to find different techniques to become a more relaxed person. Yoga is one of those things that I’ve always been fascinated by, but never thought I could do. Challenge accepted.
4. Running: If yoga is the first challenge of 2020, running is the second. It’s another one of those things that I think is relaxing, but I’m not good. I’m a terrible runner. Why should I let that stop me?
5. Mindfulness: And I’m talking all meanings of the word. Being mindful of yourself, the environment, and those around you.
6. Minimalism: I want so badly to be a minimalist. The idea and the reasoning behind minimalism is honestly super motivating. Getting rid of excess is the dream. However, I’m definitely not at a point in my life where that’s a feasible choice. So, instead I’ve decided taking baby steps is the way to go.
7. Cleaner eating: I’d like to think I eat pretty clean, but I always make excuses as to why I’m compromising throughout the week. I’ll always start super strong, but if something throws me off then I’ll give up. I want to be more conscious and less hard on myself. It’s not the end of the world if I slip up a bit. It’s all copasetic!
8. Capsule wardrobe: Okay, so this is right up there with minimalism. I’d love to be a girl with a capsule wardrobe, but your girl LOVES fashion. I’m very good about doing massive clean outs and always donating what I can. However I can’t be the only one who sees that as an opportunity to refresh their closet. Someone has to stop me! Ultimately in 2020 I’d like to find a way to be the girl who loves fashion, but in a capsule way. Challenge three accepted!
9. Morning person: I am not a morning person and I can’t say that I ever will be. I envy those of you who are. With that being said, I am a night owl. I thrive! All of my creative ideas and energy come alive the second I’m trying to sleep. Most of my mornings start at 5:30 and I struggle to utilize that time because I’m so tired. I’m also not a person without coffee. I want to adopt better morning habits to become a better morning person. Or at the very least make the most of my mornings.
10. Reading: I say this every single year. “I’m going to read more. I am finally going to get through at least one stack of books.” How many stacks has she gone through? None. Not. One. STACK. I love reading and there are so many books that I want to get through. I’ll start a book and get into it, but for some reason I always stop. BUT NOT THIS YEAR! Most reasonable goal: 1 book a month. A.K.A challenge four.
11. Social presence: So this may seem like a reversed resolution. Most people vow to spend less time on social media. I don’t spend enough time on social media. I post maybe every 6 months and that’s probably being generous. Given the line of work I’d like to get into, it’s time to be more sociable!
12. Create: I need to create and for the last few years I’ve pushed that aside. Partially because I’m afraid and partially because I haven’t felt inspired. I’m finally feeling inspired. I’m ready for challenge five. My heart will be full with creativity!
13. Writing: This kind of goes hand in hand with creating. I want to create pieces for this site, but I also want to get back to writing for myself.
14. Skin: I wouldn’t consider my skin to be horrible, but there’s definitely room for improvement. I never really invested time into my skin until last year. I’ve noticed a genuine difference. Goal—be more comfortable in my own skin with or without makeup. Challenge six; I’m ready for you!
15. Traveling: I want to travel. I want have more experiences and just enjoy my mid-twenties!
16. Be uncomfortable: I want to push myself out of my comfort zone. Challenge seven; is the scariest challenge yet.
17. Toxicity: Could this be a broader resolution —thoughtful pause— probably. When I think of toxicity I think about relationships {romantic and otherwise}, mindsets, and habits. I would like to leave ALL of the above in 2019. There is no room for toxicity in 2020.
18. Get back into music: My first love has always been music, but I put it aside to adult. This is the first time in a long time that I’ve had extra time and I want to pick my guitar back up. I’d also like to tackle the drums.
19. Tarot: I know tarot isn’t for everyone, but I’m someone who is super into tarot and crystals and astrology. I’d like to become more informed as well as practice all of the above.
20. Meditation: For some this might go hand in hand with yoga and it totally can, but I also think it’s one of those things that you can do without yoga. Maybe you don’t have time for a yoga flow or maybe you’re at work or with friends and you just need a few minutes to get Zen. Meditation can be done anywhere and it’s a great way to become more aware of your body and your breathing. Personally, I need that. 2020 is welcoming Zen with open arms!
Just sitting and collecting my thoughts like this has encouraged me to start a few of these resolutions. It’s also inspired a lot. Love that for me! 2020—I’m ready for it.
