For My Family

Happy Blogmas Day 10

We’ve reached the double digits! Christmas is only 15 days away. I’ve also never written so many consecutive pieces in a row. I hope you’re all having as much fun reading as I am writing.

The holidays have always meant family for me. Ya girl comes from a H U G E family. So, it’s rare that we all get to spend time together. Most of the time someone is missing, but some are better than none.

For the entirety of my life, my parents have hosted an annual Christmas Eve party. It’s filled with a variety of food, great drinks, and an abundance of silly moments. The best memories I have come from those parties. Almost every member of my family refers to a Christmas Eve party memory during every other family event.

Since we’re in the middle of a pandemic the party is canceled. The health and safety of everyone is much more important than keeping up a tradition. I’m sad, but I understand.

Family has always been important to me. I was raised in an environment where the concept of family was made a priority. The thought of not spending time with them on Christmas Eve feels foreign.

This year has put family into perspective. I’ve developed a new appreciation for the memories I have and for the memories I’m going to make.

Family, though frustrating, is important. Having a family should never be taken for granted.

It looks like it’s going to be a virtual Christmas this year. Who’s down for some cocktails or mocktails over zoom?
