Happy Blogmas Day 14
It’s been a weekend of trying things. It’s also been a weekend of cozy moments. To kick off another week, I thought we’d go back to basics. Where I live on the East Coast is bracing for a storm. It’s been a rainy and miserable Monday with snow right around the corner. So, do you know what I decided to do? I decided to bake some chocolate chip cookies. Can you think of a better Monday pick me up?
I’d like to say that I’m about to share a secret family recipe.
But we’re just going with the one on the bag of the bag.
If it’s not broke, am I right? I make a variety of Christmas cookies every year. Chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorites. There is so much you can do to dress up a chocolate chip cookie. If you’re not like me and aren’t allergic to nuts, they add a perfect crunch. Those also have the salty and sweet combo going for them. Throwing in chocolate candies like M&Ms also gives that crunch while adding some festive colors. I like changing up the chocolate part. Today we’re using dark chocolate. However, you could use white chocolate, milk chocolate, or some sort of combo.
What you’ll need:
-2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
-1 tsp. baking soda
-1 tsp. salt
-1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
-¾ cup granulated sugar
-¾ cup packed brown sugar
-1 tsp. vanilla extract
-2 large eggs
-1 ⅔ (10 oz. pkg.) Nestle Toll House Dark Chocolate Morsels (any Nestle chocolate morsels will work)
-1 cup of chopped nuts (I omitted, so I added 1 tbsp. of all-purpose flour)
To being, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. While the oven is heating you’ll combine your flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl. I use a stand mixer. So, in the stand mixer, you’re going to beat the softened butter. Once that’s done you’re going to add your granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. You’ll mix those all together until creamy. Next, you’re going to add one egg at a time. You want to make sure each egg is incorporated nicely. Then you’ll slowly add the flour mixture from earlier. Finally, it’s time to add the chocolate and the nuts if you’re into them. After your dough is formed, use a tablespoon to create little balls. You’ll place those balls on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 9-11 minutes. Or until golden brown! Be sure to let your cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
Makes about 4 ½ dozen!
If utilizing the recipe on the back of the chocolate bag is wrong, I don’t want to be right. These cookies are delicious. They’re also easy to make! I’ll be making more next week just in time for Christmas.
Bon Appetit!
