Winter Essentials

It’s mid-February and we’re basically a month away from “spring.” I currently reside on the East Coast where we experience every single season, sometimes within one season. As much as I’d love to believe that winter will be over next month, I know that’s not realistic. So, if you experience Mother Natures’ temperamental moments, please enjoy this list of essentials that I find helpful for winter survival.

1) Face masks: These are a freakin God sent I swear! My skin dries out super quickly, especially when it’s freezing temperatures or it’s 60 degrees one day and 20 the next. Flakey facial skin is never a trend, so I take every precaution I can to ensure healthy hydrated skin. Face masks not only target specific concerns, but they’re also hands free. I love just popping a face mask on and getting stuff done. Productive lifestyle at its finest. 10/10 recommend Lush Cosmetics cup o’ coffee. It exfoliates, wakes you up, and smells amazing. L’Oreal clay masks are also amazing.

2) Lip scrub//lip balm: What is a dry face without dry lips? No matter how religiously I apply lip balm; I can still have really raw and uncomfortable lips. I decided lipstick and lip-gloss were not cutting it in this weather. Tinted lip balm was the key. I’ve been dying to give Glossier a try, especially the bomb dot com tinted {or no tint} lip balm. I am obsessed. It smells amazing, the color is the perfect amount of subtle, and my lips feel so much more soothed than with anything else. Pro tip: always, ALWAYS use a lip scrub first. Whether you’re applying lipstick, lip-gloss, or even lip balm {tinted or not} it helps get rid of all that excess dryness and creates a smooth surface for what ever you’re applying. Again, another Lush Cosmetics product I highly recommend is their lip scrub. The mint julip is my personal favorite. And if you try anything from Glossier, you have to try their Birthday Cake bomb dot com. It literally smells like birthday cake. I promise it is worth all the hype!

3) Lotion: Since we’ve covered flakey facial skin and uncomfortably dry lips, it’s only fair we cover dry skin everywhere else. I get super insecure when my hands are visibly dry. I talk with my hands A LOT, so it’s important for me to continuously apply lotion. I have lotion stashed everywhere you might need it, in my bag, in my car, my bathroom and my bedroom. My personal opinion, there is no good excuse for dry skin, legs included. How many times does a product need to be mentioned before it becomes a trend? Because I think Lush Cosmetics is definitely becoming a trend here. That’s right, yet another Lush product to combat dry skin. Their charity pot is one of my absolute favorites and the proceeds always go to a specific charity. I’m also a huge fan of Bath & Bodyworks, but who isn’t?

4) Winter coat: As we move away from body essentials we are headed straight to our fashion musts. A winter coat is essential and I don’t know about anyone else, but I hate feeling like a marshmallow. Staying warm shouldn’t mean I can’t move. This is the first year that I actually have a winter coat I LOVE. It fits me perfectly, it’s long enough that it hits right above me knees, and it even has those little thumbholes we all obsessed over in the mid 2000s. This jacket is super sleek and matches everything. It also has enough room to wear a chunky sweater comfortably. If you splurge on anything this winter let it be the perfect winter coat. If you’re curious mine is BCBG from Macy’s.

5) Rain Boots: I know this seems like an odd essential for winter, but like I said, Mother Nature has been a little temperamental lately. Here on the East Coast we’ve been experiencing crazy amounts of rain, so I decided it was time to invest in some fashionable rain boots. Biggest pet peeve: squeaky shoes, ESPECIALLY rain boots. I know, it seems slightly irrational to dislike squeaky rain boots so much and I’d probably agree if I hadn’t found the perfect rain boots. I found Chelsea rain boots at Target. They’re matte black, fit true to size, and DO NOT squeak no matter how wet they are. I spent an entire rainy weekend in Manhattan breaking these boots in and let me tell you, not only were they super comfortable, but they definitely withstood the obnoxiously wet conditions.

6) Winter Accessories: Mittens, scarves, and beanies ooh my! I love any excuse to toss on a beanie and call it a day. What better excuse than a cold day? You’ll look effortlessly amazing and if you’re anything like me, it hides 3rd day hair very well. I also never pass up a good scarf moment. I’ll make any scarf the focal point of any outfit or if I feel like there’s a little too much cleavage, a scarf is usually the perfect fix. Practical and fashionable.

7) Slouchy sweaters//Crew necks: I always reach for a slouchy sweater or a crew neck in the winter. Comfortable and cute is a mood and it’s a mood we love.

8) Booties: My final essential, which honestly goes for all seasons, is booties. I freakin’ love booties. They are the put together mood we need on early mornings and Mondays.
