It’s a virtual Valentine’s Day for a lot of us. But that shouldn’t stop us from celebrating with the ones we love. Whether you’re extending Galentine’s Day, celebrating with family, or loving a significant other, there’s no reason it can’t be a blast.
Earlier this week, I mentioned some gift ideas. I currently have double fudge brownies baking in the oven, soon to be a chocolate overload resembling a gooey, delicious cake. But I realized I forgot an important part. What is a Valentine’s Day gift without a date?
As I mentioned on Tuesday, I’m not a big Valentine’s Day girl. However, that’s never stopped me from making the most of the Hallmark Holiday. There were some lonely Valentine’s Days spent curled up binging rom-coms. There were some dates out at nice dinners, usually followed by a movie. This year, I’m not sure what it will be. But I have some ideas up my sleeve.
- Movie night: We all know how much I love movie nights. You never need an excuse for a movie night, but Valentine’s Day is a good one. If you’re spending this year alone, go crazy. Pull some of your favorite movies from all genres. Who says that Valentine’s Day has to be all love? I vote for a good thriller any time! It’s also great for a virtual date or for maintaining a safe social distance. We can sit on separate couches, that’s cool!
- Build a fort: Who would say no to this? People who don’t like fun, that’s who. Like, everything else I’m mentioning, this is a perfect virtual date! Just because you’re sharing a fort doesn’t mean you need to be in the same place. Plus, you’ve created a space to have your movie night. There’s also plenty of room to maintain a safe social distance. It just needs to be a big fort!
- Dinner date (swapping recipes): Have whoever you’re celebrating with send you their favorite recipe. You send them your favorite recipe. Then cook them together over FaceTime or whatever video chatting app is your go-to.
- Cheeseboard & wine tasting: Something about consuming a variety of wine and cheeses make me feel like an adult. It feels fancy, which is perfect for a day of love. It doesn’t have to be wine either. Maybe, beer is more your taste. Or perhaps a cold cocktail. Whether it’s virtual or from a safe social distance, nothing is better than good company and good drinks.
- Takeout: Cooking together is always a good time. But there’s nothing wrong with ordering your favorite food from your favorite restaurant. It’s like going to your favorite spot, but safer. It makes a great gift, as I mentioned earlier this week. However, it also makes a great date. Two birds, one stone, am I right?
- Bake off: Baking, like takeout, is a great gift. But it also makes a great date. You can bake over FaceTime or whatever video chatting app is your go-to. Or in person. If you’re doing it via video call, you might need some help from others as far as judging goes. But it’s possible! I’d suggest judging on flavor, presentation, and fun.
No matter what you’re doing today, I hope you have fun! Be sure to spread the love. Whether you’re spending the day with yourself because we all need to show a little more self-love or spending it with others, make this Valentine’s Day worthwhile!
Happy Valentine’s Day! xo
