Happy Blogmas Day 13
Is my blogmas late today? Yes, it is. However, I have a good reason. Friday, we covered vegan gingerbread cookies, and today we’re covering gingerbread houses. Every year I see several people build gingerbread houses. So, I wanted to take part this year. Some people make it look easy, while others make it look difficult. I wanted to know if it was worth it.
I’ve made a gingerbread house once. Honestly, it wasn’t a memorable experience. This time it will be! Hopefully, because it goes well and not just because I’m documenting it here.
What you’ll need:
-Gingerbread house kit
-Gingerbread village (Is this new for anyone else or just me?
I grabbed a gingerbread house kit from Walmart. That’s also where I found the gingerbread village. This particular kit includes the cookies, E-Z build tray, E-Z build roof holder, pre-made icing, mini beads, gummy trees, mini jellies, snowflake sprinkles, and peppermint balls. It’s also peanut and tree nut-free! I’m allergic to both. It can be hard to find holiday treats that are allergy-friendly. Unfortunately, it does contain wheat and may contain milk, egg, and soybean. There are 9 “easy” steps to follow on the back of the box. It also includes an instructional video. What could go wrong?
I was pleasantly surprised. It took me about an hour to assemble as well as decorate. It wasn’t as hard as I was anticipating. However, it did fall once. When I started assembling the back wall to the sidewall it collapsed. I was discouraged for .2 seconds. But I wasn’t going to let this gingerbread house win. No one wants to lose to a cookie. The instructions on the back were easy to follow. I didn’t use the E-Z roof holder because I was feeling risky. I can report the roof is still holding it together. All of the walls are also keeping it together. We love to see a queen thriving.
Two lovely ginger people now reside at this gingerbread house. They’ve planted some glorious gummy trees.
I give this kit an 8/10.
Would I do it again? For sure, but I think it would be more fun with friends or treating it like a competition. It could also be another virtual date idea. Who would have thought a gingerbread would offer so much entertainment?
I can now say that a gingerbread house is worth it.
