Being the organized soul that I am, I sat down about a week ago and planned the month of September. However, I completely forgot to plan topics for today’s piece and next Tuesday’s piece. So, when in doubt caffeine it out!
It’s been a while since we talked about coffee here. *Insert flashback harps* it was late March or early April when we hopped on the trendy train and tried whipped coffee. Since then I’ve discovered I prefer my whipped coffee over iced coffee as oppose to milk.
So, I think it’s time to test a new trend or an old trend that only comes around this time of year. The only time I strive to be a basic babe and accept the title proudly.
*Hold for anticipation*
It’s pumpkin spice latte season. More fondly known as PSL season. A guilty pleasure and illicit affair all wrapped in one with pumpkin spice dashed on it. Being basic has never felt so right.
Pumpkin can be a very polarizing flavor, especially when everything comes in pumpkin. Has anyone tasted pumpkin pasta? Not everything deserves to be dressed in pumpkin.
Coffee and pumpkin, however, make the ideal lovechild.
It feels like every coffee shop develops its pumpkin coffee or take on the classic PSL. I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge latte girl. Crazy, I know! There’s a lot of milk in lattes and even with coconut milk, it’s still too milky. If you cringed reading that imagine how I felt writing it. But I still get at least one PSL each season.
Starbucks is my go-to latte spot. Is it cliché? Yeah, probably, but they know how to make a PSL. I always substitute regular milk for coconut milk, and it gives it a nice flavor. It’s almost like the pumpkin and coconut balance each other out. If you enjoy coconut I highly recommend it. Works for both hot and iced.
I’ve been feeling risky with all my Starbucks orders; trying to branch out and expand my coffee pallet. So, I decided to ditch the milky taste and go for a Venti iced coffee with two pumps of pumpkin syrup. Filled with all the fall flavors and none of the milkiness. Will I still get at least one PSL? Of course, but I think I’ve found something better.
Born and raised on the East Coast, I religiously visit Dunkin. Most of my coffee budget is dedicated to Dunkin. So, I was over the moon when they released their pumpkin coffee a few weeks ago. Their pumpkin swirl is the only swirl I will consume. I’ve never tasted a Dunkin PSL, but their swirl is sweet enough without any milkiness. So, I don’t personally see the point in making it with a latte milk. Does anyone else love dad jokes?
I’m not just an East Coaster. I’m a tri-stater too. So, here we have Wawa and of course Wawa coffee. As far as gas station coffee goes, Wawa is the best. Each year they release their pumpkin spice; I’ve got to say it’s pretty good. It’s the perfect blend of pumpkin and seasonal spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. Wawa also does $1 coffee for any size this time of year, so it’s a win in my book. Never do the iced though. You’ll regret it.
Before we go any further THIS IS NOT SPONSORED! These are my personal opinions, feelings, and purchased by yours truly. I do however have a coupon code for anyone interested in testing out this coffee. I’ll leave a link as well as the code below!
Now back to the post
As much as I love chains and even checking out smaller coffee shops, I still love making coffee at home. I mean when you’re drinking three to four cups a day you can’t afford to purchase every cup. I recently found Coffee Over Cardio on Instagram and being obsessed is an understatement. They’re keto-friendly, carb-free, gluten-free, and sugar-free. The flavors are enticing. I mean who doesn’t love birthday cake or chocolate donut? But that’s not why we’re here today. They recently released their pumpkin spice blend, appropriately named Basic AF, and it’s everything you want in a pumpkin coffee. The scent alone feels like fall, but the flavor is just enough. The pumpkin isn’t overpowering, but you still get that pumpkin essence you’re craving. Your home will smell decadent, your taste buds will applaud you, and your wallet will love you.
It’s also a great excuse to develop your barista skills. Do I sense a DIY latte coming up? Be sure to follow my socials to find out –@alyspaigee on all the things.
It’s the most pumpkin time of the year and I’m here for it.
