Essential Listens

I am a big podcast girl.

**Previously mentioned in Something for Stress, 10/10 recommend**

I’m constantly binging podcasts. There is never a time when I don’t have a podcast on. I’ve only recently discovered my love//obsession in the last year and I honestly don’t know why it took me so long.

Currently, I am practicing social distancing, so I thought this would be the perfect time to shout out some of my favorite podcasts. We’re living in a unique situation, which can feel lonely. Do you know what doesn’t feel lonely? Having a podcast on in the background. There is a podcast for absolutely everything, including COVID-19, if you’re into that. I’m into a myriad of different podcasts in all-different genres, so here are my top 10 podcasts.

1. Crime Junkies: No lie, I binged 2 years worth of episodes in 2 months. Obsessed does not begin to describe my addiction to this show. If you have any interest in true crime at all, you MUST listen to this show! Ashley Flowers and Brit always do a phenomenal job telling the story and genuinely stick to the facts. They’re passionate not only about true crime, but also giving overlooked cases the publicity they deserve. Ashley and Brit are best friends and they vibe so freakin well together. Best of all, they love pups or as they call them “pruppets.” I’m so into this show, I am a proud subscriber of their Patreon and I re-listen to episodes repeatedly. So, if you love true crime and pruppets go subscribe immediately.

**If you like Crime Junkies definitely check out other audiochuck productions: Red Ball, Full Body Chills, and CounterClock** Ashley recently released a podcast with Parcast called Supernatural with Ashley Flowers. Also highly recommend.

2. Alive By Night: I am an OG listener and have been around since the beginning. Hosted by best friends, Dylan and Alan, this show is off the wall in the GREATEST way possible. I live for these uploads. These two discuss any and everything, from greatest coffee franchises {hardcore Dunkin boys} to completely rewriting the newest Fast and Furious installment {based solely on the trailer}. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll question your own opinions and the opinions of those around you. It’s raw and real. Fueled by banter, bold statements, and friendship, it’s a podcast for the masses. On your next late night excursion, tune into the Alive By Night and join the rest of us who live for the night!

3. Unsolicited Advice: The first advice podcast I experienced and now I’m hooked. There are various shows that live under this umbrella, but Unsolicited Advice is by far one of my favorites. Yet another podcast hosted by best friends, Ashley and Taryne. Are we seeing a pattern? Their advice might be unsolicited, but it’s relatable and real. Their personalities mesh so well together! Every episodes feels like you’re in the studio with them, having a giant party, and all you need is an embarrassing story or difficult situation. I don’t know about you, but I certainly have plenty. Never have I ever found something so relatable. The advice they’ve given for others has helped me with problems I didn’t even realize I had. It’s like finding a community I didn’t know I needed.

4. Don’t Blame Me: Keeping to the advice trend, sometimes we need riskier advice. Sometimes we need to ask anything. Love, sex, and relationships happen to all of us and on this podcast we {the listeners} get to call Meghan {the host}, Melissa {the co-host}, and special guest for advice. This is so freakin cool. You get 3 minutes to leave a voicemail asking for advice and giving a little background. Details matter** Nothing is off limits and that’s the shtick. Meghan and Melissa have such bold personalities in honest ways. Their advice is as raw and as real as it can get, in the most unapologetic fashion. We {the listeners} also get to chime in with our personal advice//opinions and you {the caller} can call back in with updates to let us all know how the advice helped or how your situation has changed. If you appreciate realness then totally checkout Don’t Blame Me. But remember, Don’t Blame Meghan or Melissa or special guest.

5. The Health Code: I absolutely LOVE Sarah’s Day and Kurt on YouTube, but I also adore their relationship. Their personalities meld so well together and their chemistry is so lively. My health//fitness journey has been inspired by Sarah in a number of ways, so when I found her podcast with Kurt I knew it was going to be epic. It’s the perfect balance of health, realness, and relationships. The level of real these two keep is honestly something to strive for. Kurt and Sarah think a lot a like, but have completely different approaches. This podcast makes you feel inspired without feeling bullied and chilled without feeling guilty. Various guests have made appearances on the show and Sarah even did a solo episode about all things girl talk. I don’t know about anyone else, but things seem so much more attainable when there’s a code to follow!

6. Kalyn’s Coffee Talk: You never forget your first. My exposure to podcasts began with Kalyn’s. I’m a religious follower of both her vlog channel and Koze channel {her video podcasts and deeper//more produced content lives there}. Her aesthetic and vibe are everything I aspire to be. There are numerous topics she conquers; everything from personal discovers, to tarot card readings, to off the cuff poetry. Every topic she discusses, she discusses with passion and poise. A lot of seasonal projects she tackles on her channel bleed into her podcast. Youtober** has become an October staple. Who doesn’t love discussing serial killers, scary stories, and a little bit of magic? The best part, the coffee addiction is real. Recently, every episode is centered around a specific brew. So, if you love coffee in any form {decaf included} grab a hot or iced cup and join in on one of the most verbally aesthetic podcasts to date.

7. Pretty Basic: We’ve officially entered a YouTube trend. We’ve also found another podcast hosted by best friends. Are we surprised? Probably not. I’ve followed both Remi Cruz and Alisha Marie for years. I love them individually, but together they are friendship goals. These girls click so freakin well and create such an empowering atmosphere. This is another podcast that generates a communal vibe and you feel like you’re in the room with them having a huge conversation. They keep it real. I admire podcasts that hit on personal levels. We all need a little basic in our lives!

8. Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlin: I love Emma Chamberlin. She’s so cool, like genuinely cool. The kind of cool I know I will never be. So, when she announced she was doing a podcast I was super stoked. Her original podcast was called Stupid Genius and the format was unlike any other. She created a more educational style and would ask herself a question, a scientific question and try to solve it before the end of the episode. She’s recently revamped her podcast. It’s now called Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlin. This feels like Emma. She’s much more personal, she’s super honest, and probably one of the most relatable people. I’m in my mid-twenties and this girl is 18 and oddly enough I can relate. There are very rare times when anything goes, so go listen. You wont regret it.

9. My Favorite Murder: Crime is one of my personal favorites. I can never get enough. Do you know what the best part is? I’m not alone. I mean, the title of this podcast alone. My Favorite Murder, these hosts understand me. Karen and Georgia discuss their favorite {obviously} true crimes, but they tell it how they’ve heard it. So, unlike other podcasts like, Crime Junkies, Serial, or Up and Vanished, these women discuss crime in a more charismatic manner. Have you figured out the biggest plot twist? This podcast is in fact a comedy and let me tell you, they do not disappoint. They’ve covered a wide variety of famous or infamous cases and hearing those through a more lighthearted, comic relief fashion is just as intriguing. Each episode concludes with a hometown murder or crime story. We {the listeners} get to send our stories their way. It’s really comforting to know there is a community of crime lovers out there.

**Bonus//speaking of crime lovers, True Crime Obsessed is another great podcast. These two hosts are also super charismatic in a much more theatrical sense. They take a look at true crime documentaries and discuss//break them down**

10. Sierra Unfiltered: This is a new find for me. I’ve been watching Sierra on YouTube for a little over a year and she’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. She is real, she is raw, and she is definitely unfiltered is the most positive sense of the word. She tackles “taboo” topics and her podcast is no different. Sierra and Skylar {her co-host} talk about everything from body positivity to mental health to more lively topics, like recasting Disney movies and creating Vogue parodies. There is no better find than a podcast {or really anything for that matter} that you can relate to! The world needs more real and these girls are bringing it to us.

Podcasts are essential {for me personally}, but an absolutely great way to stay informed, zone completely out, or keep up with some of your favorite topics and favorite people. Social distancing can be lonely, especially if you’re handling it alone, but it doesn’t have to be {I’m repeating myself, I know}. It’s so important for all of us to practice social distancing, so the next time you’re feeling lonely pop on a podcast and enjoy that conversational vibe!

Stay safe!
